Finnish Premium Water Brand AINA Introduces Bag-in-Box Format to U.S. Retailers at ECRM

NWB Finland Oy has completed its participation in the 2026 ECRM Vitamin, Weight Management & Sports Nutrition Session in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where it introduced U.S. retail buyers to AINA Natural Water. The Finnish company is positioning the brand not as another individually bottled premium water, but as a larger-format product that addresses growing consumer interest in packaging waste and sustainability.

AINA Natural Water is packaged in 5-liter and 10-liter bag-in-box formats, which the company says use substantially less plastic than comparable volumes in individual bottles. The format is designed for homes, offices, hospitality settings, and other environments where consumers want convenient access to premium drinking water. For retailers, the bag-in-box presentation offers a visually distinct option for their water assortment and a straightforward sustainability story to communicate to shoppers.

"ECRM gave us an opportunity to introduce retailers to both AINA Natural Water and the thinking behind the product," said Marita Weiman, Quality Assurance Manager at NWB Finland Oy. "We believe there is an opportunity to approach premium water differently, with a format that stands apart at retail and gives consumers an alternative to purchasing water in individual plastic bottles."

The water originates in the Pudasjärvi region of Northern Finland, where groundwater is naturally filtered through layers of soil, sand, and rock before being mechanically filtered and packaged. It contains approximately 32 mg/L of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), and its naturally low mineral content contributes to a soft, neutral taste and clean finish. NWB Finland Oy believes these characteristics, combined with the sustainable packaging, can help differentiate the brand in the competitive U.S. premium water market.

"Retail buyers see a tremendous number of new products, so differentiation matters," Weiman said. "Our conversations at ECRM gave us the opportunity to explain why the AINA format is an important part of the brand, not simply the container the water comes in."

The company's ECRM participation comes as it moves from introducing AINA to the U.S. market to making the product available to American consumers. AINA Natural Water is coming to OneLavi.com, representing the brand's first U.S. consumer availability. NWB Finland Oy is also preparing inventory for shipment from Finland to the United States as it moves forward with its U.S. launch.

"For us, ECRM was another step in building AINA's presence in the United States," Weiman said. "We came to show retailers that premium water can offer something different through its source, its format and the story retailers can share with their customers."

The U.S. launch could signal a shift in the premium water category, where sustainability and packaging innovation are increasingly important to both retailers and consumers. If successful, AINA's bag-in-box approach may encourage other brands to reconsider traditional packaging formats and could provide retailers with a new way to meet consumer demand for environmentally responsible products.
