GRE Alpha Electronics has introduced the GCPD040-RF, a 40W constant-current LED driver that measures just 78 x 40 x 29 mm—a footprint smaller than a standard business card. The company, which manufactures LED power supplies and lighting control accessories, said the driver is designed for space-constrained fixtures where smooth, flicker-free dimming is still expected.
The GCPD040-RF can be configured without any cable or power connection to the driver. Manufacturers can use RFID with PC software to program a single driver or a batch on an RFID programming pad, speeding up production-line configuration. In the field, installers can use NFC with a mobile app to set parameters from a phone. Write access is password-protected, preventing unauthorized changes.
Through either method, users can set output current from 200 to 1400mA, along with minimum dim level, dimming curve and other parameters. That flexibility means one stocked driver can serve many fixture designs, potentially reducing inventory complexity for lighting manufacturers and distributors.
The driver supports 0-10V or 1-10V dimming and offers wirelessly programmable minimum dimming presets of 1%, 10% or Dim-To-Off, plus logarithmic or linear dimming types. It is flicker-free and compliant with IEEE 1789 when tested from 50% to 100% of maximum current, according to the company.
Reliability features include a universal 120-277V AC input, up to 40W constant-current output with a 20-43V DC range, up to 87% efficiency and less than 0.5W standby draw. The driver is IP64 compliant, has an NTC input for an external temperature sensor and includes multiple built-in protections.
The GCPD040-RF is UL Listed (Class P, Class 2), meets UL 8750 and CSA C22.2, and is RoHS compliant. It also meets EU Ecodesign Regulation 2019/2020 and carries a 5-year warranty.
Target applications include recessed and adjustable downlights, track lighting for accent and display, wall-mount sconces, wall-wash uplights, decorative and architectural pendants, and exterior wall-wash and facade lighting. The launch matters for lighting specifiers and electrical contractors because it combines compact size with wireless configurability, potentially simplifying installation and field adjustments in commercial spaces. For fixture makers, the ability to program one driver for multiple designs could lower stocking requirements and speed production.
