The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation® (MMRF) is calling on individuals nationwide to join its Walk/Run events from August to December. By participating, supporters will contribute to accelerating the cure for multiple myeloma, the second most common blood cancer.
Michael Andreini, President and Chief Executive Officer of MMRF, reflected on the organization's progress over 25 years, stating, "Looking back to where we began 25 years ago, myeloma research has been transformed thanks to the persistence of the entire myeloma community. Yet, there is still much work to be done." Andreini emphasized MMRF's commitment to innovation and collaboration with partners to support myeloma patients globally.
The MMRF's Walk/Run events are free to register and are crucial for raising funds that impact thousands of patients and their families. These events typically start between 8:15 AM and 9:00 AM and conclude between 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM on weekends.
Since its founding, MMRF has allocated over $500 million for research, initiated nearly 100 clinical trials, and facilitated the approval of more than 15 FDA-approved therapies, significantly enhancing the life expectancy of myeloma patients. The organization aims to continue this progress through the funds raised from the Walk/Run events, focusing on developing next-generation therapies, utilizing data for personalized treatments, and empowering patients with vital information and resources.
Through these efforts, the MMRF has made tremendous strides, including tripling patient survival rates. The funds from past events have been instrumental in these achievements, making the upcoming Walk/Run events a critical component of the foundation's ongoing mission.
Additionally, the Spirit of Hope Award is presented at each Walk/Run event to honor individuals or groups who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to MMRF's mission. This award recognizes patients, caregivers, or families who inspire hope through their resilience and dedication to the cause.
