USA International Harp Competition Announces Dates for 13th Edition in 2025

The USA International Harp Competition (USAIHC) has officially announced that its 13th triennial competition will be held from May 14-24, 2025, at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Founded in 1989 by the esteemed harpist and Distinguished Professor Emerita of Harp at Indiana University, Susann McDonald, the USAIHC has since evolved into one of the world's most prestigious harp competitions.

Joyce Claflin, Board President of the USAIHC, expressed her enthusiasm about continuing the competition's 35-year tradition in collaboration with Indiana University. "We are pleased to work with Indiana University to continue our 35-year tradition," Claflin stated. The event counts Indiana University, Lyon & Healy, and Salvi Harps among its exclusive sponsors.

The competition is expected to draw hundreds of music lovers, contestants, families, and friends from around the globe to Bloomington, Indiana, for ten days of vibrant competition and concerts. While most events will be free to the public, ticketed events are anticipated to sell out quickly. Details regarding the full schedule of events and locations will be available soon on the USAIHC's official website, www.usaihc.org, and across various social media platforms.

The 13th USAIHC is open to harpists of all nationalities aged 18 to 32. For those interested in participating, the updated application deadline is November 15, 2024, with acceptance notifications to be sent out by January 2, 2025. The application requires a video submission featuring two Sonatas by D. Scarlatti and Impromptu op. 86 by G. Fauré. The online application form and further details can be found at www.usaihc.org. Notably, all repertoire must be performed from memory, except for the USAIHC Ruth Inglefield Composition Contest winning work in Stage III.

The mission of the USA International Harp Competition is to inspire, promote, and sustain artistic excellence while fostering a broader appreciation for the harp and its repertoire. By bringing people together through the universal language of music, the competition aims to enhance both international and community relationships. In addition to the competition, the USAIHC organizes a composition contest, concert series, and a variety of educational programs, thereby contributing significantly to the cultural landscape.
