Manufacturing company NewAge Industries has announced its commitment to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets in collaboration with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company plans to submit comprehensive emission reduction goals within two years, covering Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, with a long-term objective of achieving net-zero value chain emissions.
Chief Executive Officer Mary Marcus emphasized the company's dedication to sustainability, positioning this commitment as a strategic next step in their environmental responsibility journey. By aligning with SBTi guidelines, NewAge joins a global effort to develop scientifically validated strategies for reducing corporate carbon footprints.
The SBTi, a collaborative effort involving prominent global organizations like the United Nations Global Compact and World Resources Institute, will independently assess and validate NewAge's proposed targets. This approach ensures that the company's emission reduction goals are grounded in rigorous climate science and represent meaningful progress toward mitigating environmental impact.
NewAge's initiative is particularly significant given its operations in high-purity manufacturing sectors, including pharmaceutical and industrial markets. By committing to comprehensive emission reductions, the company signals a proactive approach to addressing climate change that extends beyond its immediate operational boundaries to include its entire value chain.
The commitment builds upon NewAge's existing achievement of attaining Net Zero Scope 2 market-based emissions, demonstrating a continued and evolving approach to environmental sustainability. This strategic move not only represents a corporate responsibility milestone but also potentially influences industry standards for emission reduction in manufacturing sectors.
