Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) was featured on the latest episode of The BioMedWire Podcast, where co-founder and executive co-chair Anthony Durkacz discussed the company’s lead drug candidate, Lucid-MS, and its commercial alcohol metabolism product, unbuzzd(TM). Durkacz emphasized that Lucid-MS is being developed to address mobility loss associated with multiple sclerosis by targeting nerve damage, an area he believes remains unmet by currently available treatments. The company is preparing for its upcoming Phase 2 clinical trial for Lucid-MS, which will be the first study to evaluate the drug candidate in multiple sclerosis patients following Phase 1 testing in healthy volunteers.
Quantum BioPharma is a biopharmaceutical company focused on advancing innovative therapies and technologies for challenging neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders and alcohol misuse disorders. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., Quantum is focused on the research and development of Lucid-MS, a patented new chemical entity shown to prevent and reverse myelin degradation in preclinical models. Myelin degradation is the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis, and Lucid-MS aims to address this root cause.
In addition to its pipeline, Quantum invented unbuzzd(TM) and spun out its over-the-counter version to Unbuzzd Wellness Inc. (formerly Celly Nutrition Corp.), led by industry veterans. Quantum retains ownership of 19.84% (as of March 31, 2026) of Unbuzzd at unbuzzd.com. The agreement with Unbuzzd also includes royalty payments of 7% of sales from unbuzzd(TM) until payments to Quantum total $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. Quantum retains 100% of the rights to develop similar products or alternative formulations specifically for pharmaceutical and medical uses.
Durkacz highlighted the growth opportunities for both Lucid-MS and unbuzzd(TM), noting that the alcohol metabolism product is currently available in the U.S. market. The company’s focus on unmet medical needs and commercial potential underscores its strategy to build a portfolio of innovative assets. The full press release is available at https://ibn.fm/HURxt.
Quantum BioPharma’s progress in advancing Lucid-MS to Phase 2 trials represents a significant step toward potentially addressing mobility loss in multiple sclerosis patients, a condition with limited treatment options. Meanwhile, unbuzzd(TM) offers a commercial revenue stream through royalties and equity stake. The company’s dual approach—targeting a serious neurological disease while generating near-term revenue from a consumer health product—illustrates a diversified business model that could impact both patients and investors.
