Saint Paul Public Housing Agency Partners with Comcast to Provide WiFi Access

The Saint Paul Public Housing Agency (PHA) and Comcast have announced a strategic partnership to provide WiFi connectivity to all 16 of PHA’s buildings in Saint Paul. This collaboration marks Comcast’s first initiative with a Minnesota-based housing agency to offer pre-installed, ready-to-use access to the Xfinity network for residents.

More than 2,500 housing units within the PHA buildings will now be equipped with Xfinity’s fast and reliable network along with comprehensive WiFi coverage. The availability of this network simplifies the process for residents, eliminating the need for technician visits, modem deliveries, or trips to Xfinity Stores. Service activation can be completed via a phone call or the Xfinity App.

Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, “Internet access provides connectivity to 21st century infrastructure, equipping our residents with the tools vital to enhancing opportunities for education, employment, and quality of life. The collaboration between Saint Paul Public Housing Agency and Comcast empowers our neighbors to realize a brighter future.”

This move will allow current and new residents to connect to the Internet within five minutes of moving into their WiFi-ready units, facilitating an easy setup for all their devices. One of the first buildings to benefit from this installation was the Saint Paul Public Housing Agency's Central Hi-Rise.

PHA Board Chair Missy Staples Thompson emphasized the broader impact of this connectivity, saying, “Access to WiFi isn’t just about connecting devices; for us it’s about connecting PHA residents to opportunity. Making PHA-owned high-rises WiFi-ready can help residents cross the digital divide and open doors to education, employment, and empowerment. We appreciate this partnership with Comcast that will benefit residents and their communities.”

The installation of the Xfinity network will be carried out in phases. The first two buildings have already been equipped, and the remaining 14 buildings are expected to have WiFi-ready units by the end of 2024.
