Speedball Art Products has announced the acquisition of the Silicoil Brush Cleaning System and all associated assets from The Lion Company, Inc., a move that underscores Speedball's commitment to the artist community. The Silicoil system, invented in 1954 by artist and engineer Leo Wrye Zimmerman, has been a staple in artists' studios for its innovative approach to brush care, effectively removing paint while preserving bristles.
Zaurie Zimmerman, CEO of The Lion Company, expressed confidence in Speedball's ability to uphold the Silicoil tradition, citing Speedball's dedication to nurturing brands and serving artists. Speedball CEO Walt Glazer echoed this sentiment, highlighting the opportunity to leverage Speedball's global resources to further serve artists and retail partners.
The acquisition not only enriches Speedball's product lineup but also reinforces its position as a leader in the art supplies market. Artists can now order the Silicoil Brush Cleaning Tank directly through Speedball, ensuring continued access to this essential tool. This strategic move by Speedball, a company with a storied history dating back to 1899, signifies its ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, affordable art materials to the creative community.
