Vallejo's Mad Hatter Holiday Festival Returns with Unique Wonderland Experience

The Mad Hatter Holiday Festival returns to Vallejo's historic downtown on Saturday, December 6, 2025, offering a unique holiday experience that transforms the city into a fantasy world through creative lighted displays and fire-shooting Wonderland recreations. This annual event attracts thousands of visitors and stands out as unlike any other festival or parade in the United States, combining traditional holiday elements with extraordinary artistic creations.

The festival's significance lies in its ability to create a distinctive community gathering that blends multiple cultural elements while supporting local businesses and artists. The parade features larger-than-life Wonderland characters, including the Mad Hatter and his tea party guests leading the procession alongside award-winning Burning Man mutant vehicles of serpents, dragons, and rhinos that shoot fire. These unique elements demonstrate how the event bridges different artistic communities and creates new traditions for holiday celebrations.

Additional parade participants include a classic restored 48 and 8 Train from the early 1900s, Storm Troopers led by Darth Vader from the Golden Gate Garrison 501 Legion, Aladdin's Lamp, Maritime Cadets in their Blues, children ballerina groups, and a dancing Grinch with followers. The diverse lineup continues with cultural dancing groups, hip-hop performers, and lighted floats that create an immersive experience for attendees of all ages.

The festival features two announcing stages, including one created for Burning Man called Starway to Heaven, which stands fifteen feet high above the parade route, and a second stage hosting a Hatter's Queen Court that crowns young princesses and Queens before the parade begins. Festival grounds are surrounded by holiday gift and food vendors, live musical performances, and photo opportunities between two giant flaming feathers. Children can enjoy a bell-ringing lighted holiday train that circles the festival grounds near the dazzling glow of the holiday tree.

The event culminates with the lighting of a sparkling Christmas Tree featuring over three thousand lights after a countdown by the Mayor and Grand Marshals Freddie Stone of Sly & The Family Stone and Community Grand Marshal Amanda Williams. A massive constructive Victorian Ship with a 30-foot colorful blimp on its top hosts the staging for the performing program that concludes with the illumination of the 50-foot tree, recognized as one of California's largest holiday trees. The event schedule includes festival activities beginning at 2:00 PM, Queen's Court at 2:30 PM, the parade at 4:30 PM, tree lighting at 6:00 PM, and the Vallejo Yacht Club Lighted Boat Parade at 6:30 PM.
