VRM Companies will unveil the sculpture 'A Orillas del Río' by Puerto Rican artist Luis Torruella on Thursday, June 18 at 5:30 p.m. at The River Village Club House in Ciudad Jardín Gurabo. The event, expected to draw over 300 residents, Mayor Vilmarie Peña, and the artist, marks the culmination of a multi-year transformation of a community that had languished in neglect for nearly fifteen years.
Ciudad Jardín Gurabo, once home to about 519 families, suffered from deteriorated common areas, a vandalized golf clubhouse, abandoned tennis courts, and declining property values. In 2021, VRM Companies began a comprehensive revitalization effort, despite challenges such as the pandemic and rising construction costs. The company transferred ownership of the Golf Club House—now called The River Village—to the Master Association of Owners, turning it into a hub for businesses and services. Additionally, VRM created a new Racket Club with tennis, pickleball, and beach tennis, modernized the entrance booth, and rehabilitated all common areas.
Today, more than 1,000 families reside in Ciudad Jardín Gurabo, with new resort-style homes in River Terrace, River View, and River Estates complexes. These homes are priced between $300,000 and $400,000, offering affordable housing for the middle class in Puerto Rico. The transformation has not only benefited new homeowners but also existing residents, enhancing property values and community life without imposing additional costs.
