Future Stars Summer Camp, which serves more than 1,500 families across New York, has earned accreditation from the American Camp Association for the 2026 season. This recognition signifies that the camp has undergone a comprehensive review of up to 290 standards covering all aspects of operations, from staff qualifications to emergency management and program quality. The accreditation process involves an independent peer review that evaluates health, safety, and program standards beyond state licensing requirements.
The importance of this accreditation lies in the rigorous national benchmarks it represents. According to ACA President and CEO Henry DeHart, ACA accreditation means Future Stars submitted to a thorough review and complied with the highest standards in the industry. "State regulation varies widely and, at its best, can only go so far," said DeHart. "Because of this, ACA's accreditation program is a valuable resource that goes beyond regulation to strengthen camp practices related to health and safety."
For families considering summer programs, this accreditation provides independent verification of quality and safety. Future Stars maintains an 8:1 camper-to-staff ratio and employs certified teachers and coaches, which were key factors in meeting ACA's standards. The camp's operational data supports its reputation: 96% of parents would recommend Future Stars, and 70% of campers return each year.
The American Camp Association collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to establish and maintain industry-recognized standards. This means Future Stars' practices reflect the most current, research-based approaches to camp operation.
Founded in 1980, Future Stars has grown from a small tennis program into one of New York's most comprehensive specialty camp operations, offering 35+ programs ranging from traditional sports to STEAM education, circus arts, and horseback riding. The camp operates at premier facilities across multiple locations, including SUNY Purchase College, SUNY Old Westbury, and Farmingdale State College, with a new location opening in Sayville for 2026.
Jordan Snider, COO and Future Stars Purchase Site Director, stated, "Achieving ACA accreditation validates what we've known for decades: families trust us to provide not just an exceptional summer experience, but a safe, nurturing environment where children thrive." This recognition matters because it provides parents with independent assurance that their children's summer camp meets nationally recognized standards for safety and quality, going beyond what state regulations typically require.
