Greenland Mines (NASDAQ: GRML) announced on Sept. 2, 2026, the closing of its acquisition of the Sarfartoq Nd-Pr Rare Earths Project in southwest Greenland. The transaction, valued at $20 million in cash and $15 million in securities, was completed on Sept. 1, 2026. This acquisition is a strategic step for the company as it advances the project toward a pre-feasibility study.

The Sarfartoq project is notable for its potential to contribute substantially to rare earth production outside China. According to the company, planned annual NdPr oxide production from Sarfartoq would represent approximately 34% of all NdPr oxide refined outside China at 2025 consumption levels during each of the project’s nine scheduled operating years. With the acquisition complete, Greenland Mines plans to undertake targeted infill drilling, pilot-scale metallurgical test work, mine engineering planning, environmental and social baseline studies, and drone-based magnetic surveys. These activities are designed to advance Sarfartoq toward a pre-feasibility study, a critical milestone in the project’s development timeline.

Neo Performance Materials has become a strategic shareholder in Greenland Mines through this transaction. Neo retains offtake rights for up to 60% of future Sarfartoq ore or mineral concentrate production for processing at its Silmet rare earth separation facility in Estonia. This partnership is expected to strengthen the downstream processing capabilities for materials sourced from the project, further integrating the supply chain.

Greenland Mines operates with two divisions: Mining and Biotech. The Mining division focuses on exploration and development of the Skaergaard Project in southeast Greenland and now the Sarfartoq project. The Biotech division includes Klotho’s KLTO-202 primary indication for ALS. The company’s strategy is centered on building a multi-asset platform with exposure to rare earth magnet materials, precious metals, and selected midstream processing opportunities, while advancing its broader North Atlantic Critical Metals Corridor vision linking Greenland resources with allied downstream jurisdictions and industrial infrastructure.

The completion of this acquisition positions Greenland Mines to play a key role in the rare earth supply chain, particularly for Western markets seeking to reduce dependence on Chinese rare earth exports. The project’s high-grade NdPr rare earths are essential for permanent magnets used in electric vehicles, wind turbines, and other clean energy technologies.
