It’s time to update our popular post of the top HR Twitter #Hashtags.
First, some background on how we generated the lists and some advice on the use of hashtags.
- To compile these lists we used HRmarketer Insight to stream about 4,000 Twitter IDs that actively tweet and share content on HR and related business topics (e.g., recruiting, talent management, benefits, etc.).
- By “stream” I mean we analyze every tweet for each Twitter ID including the shared content. We streamed the accounts for 6 months. We analyzed millions of tweets.
Smart hashtag usage can significantly impact the visibility of your tweets. Some advice:
- Use hashtags.
- Never use more than three hashtags in a single tweet.
- Mix up the use of hashtags. Don’t use the same ones over and over.
- Don’t place a hashtag in front of everyday words (e.g., Great #article on the #topic of #employee #background #screening)
- Stay on the lookout for new hashtags to use. One strategy is to monitor the hashtags being used by your targeted influencers or competitors and use similar ones. Here is an analysis of the hashtags used by HR influencer Steve Browne:
- Avoid overusing the overused hashtags
- Avoid using a hashtag of a word already mentioned earlier in the tweet (e.g., Check out these HR hashtags…. #HR)
- Make your hashtags relevant to the topic of the Tweet. HRmarketer Insight customers can use the software’s “suggest hashtags” feature when sharing content to get an instant list of the best hashtags to use for the content being shared.
- Participate in HR Twitter chats and use the chat’s hashtag.
